Mabton street crews get ‘late jump’ on snow removal

MABTON – During the Mabton City Council’s regular meeting last night, Tuesday, Councilman Arturo DeLaFuente critiqued the city’s snow removal performance.

A former public works official for the city, DeLaFuente said city crews got a “late jump” on snow removal and that created slippery conditions.

Public Works Lead Chris Morris reminded DeLaFuente that Mabton has no one on call on Saturdays, and also noted that he fielded no calls from citizens concerned about the snowfall.

Mayor Mario Martinez added that Mabton is in need of updated snow removal equipment. In addition, the city had gone so long without ordering de-icer that Mabton was no longer on the list of cities to purchase it. Martinez says that has been addressed, and that de-icer has bee ordered.

Martinez also said the city is preparing a priority list of areas to be plowed first.

“It’s a learning process and we’ll do a better job next time,” said Martinez.
