Leo Palacios of Sunnyside (above) splits two Davis defenders in last Friday’s game. The Pirates won 80-54. Palacios scored just two points against the Pirates, but on Saturday he had a team-high 19 points. “Leo Palacios came out and had a great night scoring-wise for us,” Sunnyside Coach Geoff LaBrant said of Saturday’s game against Wenatchee, which went the way of the Panthers, 68-59. He said Palacios sparked the team to an early lead and continued to hit key shots against the Panthers. Against Davis on Friday it was Angel Garza that led the Grizzlies with 14 points. In the bottom photo, Cody Fernandez of SHS moves the ball past the Davis defenders. He scored eight points on Friday, 10 on Saturday. LaBrant said the Grizzlies executed well against the Panthers. “We had guys come off the bench and give us good looks, and we made a point of emphasis on defense, preventing certain Wenatchee players from running away with the game.” The game, however got away from the Grizzlies in the final quarter. “We lost focus on offense,” said LaBrant. He said Sunnyside also missed some defensive stops. Sunnyside tomorrow (Tuesday) will host Hanford.
