Kids rodeo this weekend

KENNEWICK – A rodeo featuring student athletes ages 11-18 will be held today (Friday) through Sunday at the fairgrounds in Kennewick.

Today and tomorrow morning, the junior high competitions will take place.

Tomorrow afternoon and Sunday, more than 150 high school students will compete in rodeo events such as barrel racing, goat tying, breakaway roping, steer wrestling, team roping, pole bending, tie-down roping, bareback riding, saddle bronc and bull riding.

The sixth through eighth-grade boys and girls will participate in similar events.

The rodeo starts at 5 p.m. tonight, 9 a.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday at the Benton County Fairgrounds. Activities will last the better part of the day.

Contestants from across the state will compete. Local participants include students from Columbia Burbank, Finley, Kennewick, Benton City, Prosser and Pasco schools.

Admission is free and a concession stand will be open.
