Moore leads Lady Grizz at swim meet

FEDERAL WAY – Sunnyside High School junior Cassadie Moore turned in a whale of a performance at the 32-school Mukilteo Girls Swimming Invitational this past Saturday.

Moore, from a field of 76 swimmers, raced to a ninth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.

She clocked a time of 1:11.36. The winning time of 1:07.13 was set by John F. Kennedy Catholic High School sophomore Angela Gagliardo.

Moore also competed in the 200-yard individual medley. The competition drew a field of 62 swimmers. She put up the 19th fastest time, a clocking of 2:22.55. The winning time was 2:03.44, posted by Richland’s Lisa Bratton.

The next highest finish garnered by a Sunnyside swimmer was junior Lindsay Schilperoort’s 33rd-place performance in the 100-yard butterfly. She clocked a time of 1:12.50. The fastest time from the 64-girl field was 58.84 seconds, clocked by Liberty High School junior Mackenna Briggs.

Schilperoort swam, too, in the 100-yard backstroke. She placed 53rd in the 70-swimmer field, clocking a time of 1:18.12. West Valley sophomore Caitlin Quaempts had the fastest time (59.96).

Also turning in a strong effort for the Lady Grizzlies was junior Payton Sample. From a field of 107 swimmers she earned a 36th-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. She posted a clocking of 1:04.08. Monroe High School junior Cathryn Armstrong won the race in a time of 54.95 seconds.

Sample also swam the 50-yard freestyle, placing 56th from a 189-girl field with a clocking of 28.89 seconds. Mercer Island sophomore Sabrina Kwan won the race by clocking a time of 25.04.

In the two relay competitions in which the Lady Grizzlies competed, they placed 37th from a 91-squad field in the 200-yard medley, and were 48th out of 91 teams in the 200-freestyle.
