Two more candidates throw hats in the ring to retain their seats

Another two candidates have filed for public offices in the Lower Valley, according to the Yakima County elections office.

Both candidates filed for Mabton races and both are incumbents in the seats they hold.

Elizabeth Cerrillo will be seeking to retain the seat in Dist. 2 she was appointed to earlier this year on the Mabton School Board. She is a volunteer coordinator for Sunnyside Community Hospital who was appointed to the board in February to fill a long time vacancy.

"I'm running for the same reasons I applied to be on the board in the first place: to make a difference," she said. "I have children. They were my main motivation. Once I got on the board I saw how supportive everyone was and found I enjoyed it. I have a lot of fun."

Also filing yesterday was Mabton City Councilwoman Sophie Sotelo, who will be seeking re-election to her Position 2 seat.

Sotelo was born and raised in Mabton and has been on the council since 2009.
