Grandview wins CWAC doubleheader

TOPPENISH - The Grandview baseball bats were warmed up after winning the first game of this past Saturday's double-header against Toppenish 9-1, giving the Greyhounds motivation to win the second game 22-8.

Erik Sauve of Grandview opened the first game by striking out 12 Toppenish batters. He didn't allow any earned runs.

Relieving Sauve on the mound was Martin Sanchez, who struck four Wildcats out to secure the win.

Behind the plate was Derek Swearingen, who also had an RBI double in the opening game.

In the nightcap it was Mitchel Wagner who took to the mound for five innings. He sent nine Wildcats back to the dugout via K's.

Swearingen took over and kept four batters from connecting with the ball.

Martin Sanchez was behind the plate for the second game of the doubleheader, which besides being the CWAC opener was the season opener for the Greyhounds.

The Greyhound batters did well, too. Jorge Oros was 2-for-5, Nate Trevino was 3-for-5, Brendon Bardwell's bat connected with the ball three of five times, Wagner got on base three of four times and Sauve was 1-for-2 with a double.

It was a good first outing for the Greyhounds, according to Coach Matt McKinstry.

Grandview (2-0) will tomorrow (Tuesday) have another road game in Quincy.
