Grandview High Knowledge Bowl team places fourth at Regional contest

TOPPENISH - The Grandview High School Knowledge Bowl team last Wednesday earned fourth place honors at the Regional tournament.

Also competing in the tournament were teams from West Valley, Ellensburg, Selah, Wapato and Toppenish, representing the 2A classification.

West Valley, with a score of 112, earned championship honors and Ellensburg was runner-up with 77 points.

The Grandview team, consisting of Chet Bardwell, Elmer Campuzano, Samy Castaneda, Milagra Castilleja and Austin Door, scored a total of 57 points.

The team earned 30 points for the written questions and 27 points in the three oral rounds of questioning.

This is the 10th season of Knowledge Bowl competition in South Central Washington. Grandview High School's Kelly Ledgerwood has been coaching teams representing the school all 10 years.

The students serving on Knowledge Bowl teams are tested on a range of topics from history to literature.

West Valley and Ellensburg are among the qualifiers for the State competition to be held at Arlington High School on Saturday, March 23.

Also qualifying for State last Wednesday were 1A Highland High School and 2B champion Riverside Christian High School.

Sunnyside will compete in the 3A Regional tournament on Thursday, Feb. 28.
