Angela Benitez de Ruiz, 92, of Grandview went to be in the arms of her Savior on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.

Angela was born on July 5, 1920 in Tepostan, Michoacan, Mexico, the daughter of Secundino and Julia (Fonseca) Benitez. Angela was not able to go to school so a childhood friend taught her to read and write.

On April 17, 1943 she married Benigno Ruiz Morfin in Mexico.

In 1993 Angela became a permanent resident of the U.S. and spent time between Mexico and Washington until 2005, when she made Grandview her permanent home.

Angela was a wonderful homemaker, providing all her family with much love, care and nurturing.

She was a wonderful cook and no one, family or friend, ever left her home without a meal. She would make sure everyone had eaten before she herself would sit down. She loved to crochet and cross stitch and continued to do so until her eyesight no longer allowed it.

She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview.

Angela is survived by nine children, Carmen (Miguel) Guizar of Pasco, Maria Ruiz, Maura Ruiz and Miguel Ruiz, all of Mexico, Rogelio (Roy) (Lupe) Ruiz and Julia (Antonio) Cornejo, both of Sunnyside, Isabel Ruiz, Marina (Luis) Sanchez and Rosario (Bernardo) Causor, all of Grandview; five stepchildren, Vicente Ruiz of Grandview, Trinidad Ruiz of Richland, Jesus Ruiz, Teresa Ruiz and Rita Ruiz, all of Mexico; 56 grandchildren; and 113 great- grandchildren.

Angela was preceded in death by her husband, Benigno Ruiz Morfin; parents, Secundino Benitez and Julia Fonseca; two infant, children; several step-children including, Salvador Ruiz Guzman of Sunnyside; three brothers, Jose Islas, Jesus Benitez and Pedro Benitez; two sisters, Maria Islas and Soledad Benitez.

Viewing and visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m., with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview, with burial to be held at Grandview Cemetery.
