College Bound helps grad rates

The Sunnyside School Board heard a presentation about the success of the College Bound Scholarship program at its Thursday meeting last week, learning that students in the program are more likely to graduate.

The program is now in its seventh year. Enrollment starts with students in seventh and eighth grades, and success in the program provides tuition money when the students attend college after they graduate from high school.

Of approximately 1,800 students at Sunnyside High School, 1,100 are estimated to be part of the program. Enrollment has increased the last two years thanks to efforts by GEAR UP staff to ensure all eligible students are signed up for the program.
