Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Rita Castillo Sambrano, 78, a longtime Sunnyside resident, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013.
Rita was born May 22, 1935 in Driscoll, Texas, the daughter of Luz Soliz Castillo and Margarita Peña.
On Jan. 17, 1950 she married Estevan Sambrano in Robstown, Texas. She was a very caring homemaker, providing love, food especially homemade tortillas and beans and a warm home for a family of 12 children.
Rita enjoyed sewing quilts, knitting, cooking for family and friends, cherished time spent with grandchildren. Rita loved gardening, making fresh sun tea, reciting the Holy Rosary nightly and saying her prayers.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside.
She is survived by her husband, Estevan Sambrano of Sunnyside; 12 children, Esteban Zambrano, Jr. of Grandview, Estella (Juan) Flores of Sunnyside, Elida Zambrano of Yakima, Ernesto (Faith) Zambrano of Richland, Emilio (Evelyn) Zambrano of Zillah, Enrique (Sylvia) Sambrano of Sunnyside, Ricardo Zambrano of Sunnyside, Rosie (Joe) Montelongo of Grandview, Shana (Jesse) Gomez of Yakima, Casi Sambrano of Mexico, Mo., Luis (Becky) Sambrano of Richland, and Martina (Henry) Carranza of Auburn; 24 grandchildren; 38 great- grandchildren; two brothers, Luz (Josie) Castillo and Santos (Lily) Castillo, both of California; and four sisters, Petra Macias, Lupe (Oscar) Hernandez of Texas, Hortencia (Ramon) Castro of California and Ernestina (Sylvestre) De Leon of Othello.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Luz and Margarita Castillo; one brother, Domingo Castillo; and one sister, Oralia Reyes.
Viewing and visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m., with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
