Three Sunnysiders nabbed in Grandview on charge of throwing Molotov cocktails

GRANDVIEW - Officers in Grandview arrested three suspects yesterday morning (Thursday) after a person in the 300 block of Davie Street reported that someone threw a bottle at a truck.

Police stopped a white van in the 600 block of East Third Street because of a witness description and detained the occupants on a charge of obstruction. According to police, officers were able to tie the occupants to the earlier incident and another incident in the 500 block of Ismo Court.

Police say bottles full of gasoline (Molotov cocktails) were thrown at unoccupied vehicles with the intent of starting fires. Arrested were Jacqueline N. Ramirez, 19; Augustine J. Avalos, 36; and Manuel M. Silva, 19, all of Sunnyside. Police have requested charges on each of two counts of second degree arson.

Grandview police say the incidents were not gang-related but the potential motive was to draw police attention away from the opposite side of town in order to facilitate a vehicle theft.

This morning Grandview police were notified of a possible theft of jewelry from the 1100 block of Grandridge Road.

Since yesterday morning, officers in Grandview have also handled four reports of animal problems, provided four agency assists and conducted a welfare check.
