If you say it, own up to it

I'm all for free speech. I wouldn't be writing a letter to the editor if I wasn't. But if you're going to say it, you need to own it.

I have no problem with businesses putting their political beliefs, religious beliefs, etc. out for everyone to see. When you put up a sign on your business and I don't agree with your stance, you may lose my patronage, but it's your right to have your opinion, and by posting that sign on your own business you have owned that stand. You've stepped up and said, "This is what I believe." That's what free speech is about.

But when you post a billboard, like the one on South First Street in Sunnyside, especially one that uses profanity and then don't take credit for it, don't identify yourself as the person behind the billboard, that's just cowardly.

That's my stand and by signing this letter I'm letting you know I own it.
