Home invasion thwarted by Mabton victim's relatives

MABTON - If it had not been for her family members, a Mabton woman may not be able to tell her story.

This past Monday afternoon, Nov. 12, at around 3:46 p.m. four young males were seen attempting to enter the woman's Mabton home, wearing all black clothing and hooded sweatshirts.

The homeowner immediately barricaded herself and her small children in the bathroom of the home and dialed 9-1-1.

While waiting for officers to arrive on scene, relatives of the resident arrived at the home, not knowing of the incident in progress.

Mabton police say the relatives' vehicle blocked the suspect vehicle, causing three of the four suspects to flee on foot. The fourth suspect, who is believed to be the driver of the blocked vehicle, was detained by the resident's relatives until police arrived.

Upon arrival, Yakima County Sheriff deputies and Mabton police officers discovered the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Mabton resident Ramon Magana-Izazaga, was in possession of two loaded firearms. Mabton police say they also recovered multiple rounds of live ammunition.

Mabton police identified Magana-Izazaga as a well-known gang leader in the Mabton area, and say they recovered from his person what is known to be a rare universal four-pronged key, which is commonly believed to steal Honda and Acura vehicles.

Continuing their search of the suspect, Mabton officers said they discovered a large amount of gold jewelry, worth approximately $2,000, which is believed to be part of a previous burglary.

Officials also discovered that the suspects had attempted to steal the woman's vehicle Monday afternoon, causing major damage to the ignition department on the vehicle. Officers estimate $2,000 worth of damages were done to the vehicle and nearly $1,000 to the victim's home.

The three other suspects had fled the scene before officers arrived, but the victim told officers one of the subjects had a lighter complexion and was also wearing glasses.

Magana-Izazaga was arrested as a suspect in the burglary and is facing felony charges on two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, burglary in the first degree and malicious mischief in the second degree, in addition to vehicle prowling in the second degree.

Officers are still actively searching for the three suspects who are also believed to be involved in the burglary. Mabton officials say they are obtaining a search warrant and have leads to whom they believe was involved in the incident. Mabton Police Sergeant Cas Cedillo says officers believe the three suspects are believed to be residents of Mabton.

Officers urge area residents with questions or additional information on the incident to immediately contact the Mabton Police Department at (509) 894-4096.

In addition, Mabton police officers have responded to three traffic stops, three agency assistance requests, a domestic dispute, a suicidal person and a runaway juvenile since Tuesday, Nov. 6.
