Lucas third low scorer

EPHRATA - Only two golfers turned in a lower round than Grandview's Kayla Lucas at yesterday's three-school CWAC girls golf match, staged at Ephrata's Lakeview Golf & Country Club.

Lucas, on the par-71 course, carded a 104.

Ephrata's Kendal Sage was the lone linkster to shoot a sub-100 round. She claimed medalist honors with a 98 on front and back nine scores of 51-47.

The second lowest round was turned in by Sage's teammate, Rachael Autry. She bested Lucas by a single stroke, posting a 103 on front and back side scores of 53-50.

Team-wise, the host Tigers won the three-school match, shooting a collective 428. East Valley placed second with a team score of 475. Lucas was the only girl representing Grandview at the league match, which gave the team an incomplete in the team standings.

East Valley's low individual round, a 109, was claimed by Allyson Ingraham.

Although Sage and Autry turned in the two lowest 18-hole rounds Monday afternoon, it was Lucas who walked away with the best nine-hole score on the day. After absorbing a 58 on the front side, Lucas stepped up her game and toured Lakeview's back nine with a 10-over-par 46.

She opened the back nine by doubling and tripling the first two holes, but then pieced together a seven-hole stretch in which she took nothing higher than a bogey. During that run she parred the par-4, 16th and the par-5, 18th.

The only other golfer who shot a sub-50 round on either the front or back side yesterday was Sage, who went 11-over with a 47 on the back nine.
