Mabton Lady Vikes square league record at 5-5

MABTON - The seniors on Mabton's team were shining on senior night as the Lady Vikings mastered the Panthers, winning 60-47.

During the last home game of the season, senior Jazzee Sustaita led her team with 22 points, while fellow senior Adeline Barajas bucketed another 14 points against visiting Riverview.

"This is how I'd hoped they would go out," said Coach Chris McCallum. "And this is how I'd hoped the underclassmen would come together to make the night special."

Alyssa Nash scored another 11 points for Mabton as the team worked for the win.

"Every time Riverview made a run we had an answer," said McCallum. "The young kids continue to get better. When Jazzee and Adeline play like this we're a tough team to beat."

Mabton is now 5-5 in league play, and goes up against SCAC East powerhouse Connell on Friday.

"This was a big game for us as we try to make postseason play," McCallum said of last night's victory. "The girls responded with the effort and hard work they needed to."

Mabton (5-5, 7-11) plays at Connell on Friday, Feb. 3, and at Wahluke on Saturday, Feb. 4.

"The girls' whole heart was in this game and that's what it's going to take from here on out," said McCallum.

"We just have to keep playing and believing in each other."
