SHS instructor among top teacher finalists

ZILLAH - Jeff Charbonneau was named the 2012-13 ESD 105 Regional Teacher of the Year this past Tuesday at a presentation in the Zillah Middle School commons.

Charbonneau is one of 12 teachers from area schools who were nominated last spring for this year's regional award. Sunnyside High School special education teacher Christina Peabody was among the nominees.

Charbonneau has taught science and engineering at Zillah High School for the past 11 years. Among his accomplishments he has gained adjunct faculty status with several area institutions of higher learning, allowing his students to obtain college credits with their high school science classes.

In 2008, Charbonneau started a program called the Zillah Robot Challenge, a robotics competition that provides students with practical, hands-on applications of their math and science learning. The program hosts robotic competitions from other area schools and have given students from 43 different schools the opportunity to compete.
