Mega Million woes

As the month of December hits people begin thinking of a new year's resolution that they want to commit to for new beginnings in a new year.

And usually, when the month of April rolls around, those resolutions are long gone.

I'm proud to say, I've stuck to my resolution thus far. It wasn't an unreachable goal. I just quietly decided to make sure I stay positive.

A while ago I read somewhere that positive thinking could solve some of life's issues. A friend of mine calls it "self actualization." Others may call it hope, faith or answered prayers. Whatever you call it, it's a good thing to think of positive outcomes.

But with the recent $640 million Mega Million jackpot, my positive thinking didn't get me the win. I'd never bought a lottery ticket before in my life. But I thought, "What could it hurt? If I win, that would be great, but if I don't, oh well, I lost a few bucks."

Self actualization has let me down this time. Hours before the drawing, my significant other and I were dreaming up who we would give money to and where we would go. Would we even go into work on Monday? My dreams included a car, house and student loan debt relief, along with all my family's financial woes relieved. I also included in my budget large donations to local and international organizations. I even wanted a building at my alma mater with my name on it.

As the evening progressed the numbers were drawn and we realized we weren't getting out of town anytime soon. We finished cleaning up from dinner and went to bed. Monday morning hit like it always does, and we weren't rich.

However, sticking to my new year's resolution, I've decided to stay positive. Though I'm not $640 million richer, I still have a pretty good life. I have a good job that I love, an incredible family and I'm making it. Life is good, even without an unimaginable amount of money.
