Pathway great asset for this area

The Lower Valley Pathway, a gem of our valley, has been used by hundreds of outdoor enthusiasts. We wish to extend thanks to all those who have contributed so faithfully to the maintenance and upkeep.

Special thanks to Maxine Van de Graaf, who has served on the board since The Pathway's inception and every year planted the flowers in the planter boxes along the pathway near SunnyView Park.

Also, a special thanks goes to Theron Lochner for seeing that the plants get watered and also that the drinking fountains are turned on in the spring, drained and shut off in the fall.

Thanks to the City of Sunnyside for repaving a portion of the pathway, grading, mowing and weed spraying, the City of Grandview and Yakima County for spraying along both sides of the trail to allow a relative weed-free pathway from Sunnyside city limits to Benton County line.

The "morning walkers" are especially thanked for picking up litter every week from the parking lot at Bleyhl's to the log shelter. Several church groups, Sunnyside Daybreak Rotary, Nouvella Club, individuals and Boys Scouts have also picked up litter, painted over graffiti, refurbished benches, built shelters, trimmed trees, pulled weeds and contributed funds over the past several years.

Together as individuals and groups, we can have a wonderful pathway on which to walk, bike or skate; and keep this great asset a place of which we can all be proud.

The Board is looking for others who would like to take an active part either on the board or individuals who would like to take responsibility for keeping a portion of the pathway maintained. The current Board President is Dr. Gary Martin. Feel free to contact him at 840-0488 to help.

/s/ Libby Werkhoven, Pathway Board Secretary
