Contest provides funds for winning schools

U.S. Cellular's annual Calling All Communities Campaign invites people to vote online for their favorite schools. The school with the most votes will win $150,000 to be used in any way the school sees fit, and the next 17 schools will receive $50,000 each.

Votes will be accepted until Oct. 6, and anyone 18 years or older can visit any U.S. Cellular store and ask an associate for a code to vote for their favorite school at Each code allows a person to vote online once per day during the campaign. The cards are also game pieces, and prizes include extra daily votes and a year of free U.S. Cellular wireless service. Additionally, 2,000 randomly-selected voters will be awarded $25 U.S. Cellular debit cards simply for showing their school spirit.

Robert Lince Elementary School in Selah was one of 10 schools to garner the most votes in the 2010 campaign. The school updated its assembly room with a new sound system, screen and seating. Other winners improved outdated infrastructure and renovated gymnasiums, school kitchens and sciences labs.

Public and private schools, kindergarten through high school, are eligible to win. No purchase is necessary, and people do not have to be a U.S. Cellular customer to vote. The winning schools will be announced in October and November.
