Tyus leaving

MABTON - In action last night, Monday, the Mabton School Board approved several staff changes.

They included accepting the resignation of high school principal Jay Tyus, who accepted a position in Tonasket.

School Superintendent Minerva Morales said the school district learned of the vacancy created by Tyus' departure earlier this month and the position was posted. She said there are 17 or 18 applicants for the high school principal position.

Mabton hopes to have the opening filled by mid-June.

In other staff moves, the board also accepted the resignations of para-educator Alejandro Barrera, as well as teachers Michael Konrad and Terina Konrad.

The board also received the retirement notice by para-educator Marylou Saenz.

In addition, the board agreed to hire Sue Sartain as summer school principal and Trevor Curtis as the new high school head football coach. Stuart Mobley was also hired as an assistant football coach.
