Sylva "Sid" Thurman Stoneking, 88, of Prosser and a former Granger resident, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2011, in Prosser.

Sid received his education in Iowa.

Sid was very proud to have served in the U.S. Army during World War II in France and England.

He worked in a 2x4 mill in Morton.

Sid enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling to Wyoming, Missouri, and Arkansas to visit friends and family along the way.

He was a member of the Church of God in Granger.

Sid is survived by five sons, William (Ilene) Stoneking of Mabton, Jerry (Betty) Stoneking of Ferndale, Larry (Retha) Stoneking of Gassville, Ark., Chuck Stoneking of Outlook and Dick (Ilona) Stoneking of Shreveport, La.; one daughter, Doris (Linn) Walker of Toppenish; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine in 1993; one son, Ricky in 1947; his parents; nine siblings; and two great- granddaughters, Shannon Rose in 1992 and Chelsea Amber in 2009.

Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
