Conservation funding available to Sunnyside area farmers

The South Yakima Conservation District has limited cost-share funding available to assist local farmers implement best management practices that address soil and water conservation problems.

Eligible projects may include, but are not limited to, surface-to-sprinkler conversions, tail water pump back systems or gated-pipe.

Farmers will be reimbursed at 50 percent of the total project cost, not to exceed $1,000 per acre or a maximum of $10,000, whichever is the lesser amount.

Funded projects need to be completed by June 30, 2012.

Project applications will be accepted until Friday, Sept. 2, 2011.

Interested farmers should contact Landon Schilperoort at the South Yakima Conservation District office in Zillah at 829-9025.
