Bulldogs have more bite than Grandview girls can handle

ELLENSBURG - The Grandview soccer team's great run came to an end last night in Ellensburg.

The Bulldogs scored a 4-0 victory, ending a win streak of five games for the visiting team (Grandview).

"We had the opportunity to step it up and prove ourselves," said GHS Coach Anne Holden, stating her team was matched up against one of the toughest teams in the CWAC conference.

Unfortunately, Ellensburg was more ball hungry than the Lady 'Hounds.

"There were times we were at the mercy of what Ellensburg wanted to do," said Holden.

The Bulldogs drew first blood 32-minutes into the match when Naamah Stockdale scored, but Grandview was able to hold off the attack to end the opening half in the hole 1-0.

"Ellensburg physically outhustled us...we are skilled, but they were willing to work two and three times harder to win the ball, keep the ball and to take advantage of scoring opportunities," said Holden.

The closing half had just begun, but it took all of three minutes for Ellensburg's Keilin Farrand to score. Teammate Hadli Farrand at the 60 and 66-minute marks scored the other two goals for the Bulldogs.

"We were continually finding it hard to close down the space," Holden said, stating her team was trying to score and wasn't giving up, but couldn't sustain enough "quality possessions to create scoring opportunities."

She said the match required more mental stamina than Grandview provided. "We couldn't seem to get each other going," she commented, stating she gives Ellensburg credit for bringing everything to the match.

"It's a shame because we had a real chance...we have to bring everything loaded," Holden said, adding she believes the Lady 'Hounds have an opportunity to recover and sneak out a win tomorrow (Saturday) at East Valley.

Grandview, with last night's defeat, fell to an overall record of 7-5, and a league record of 3-2.
