City's planning department sets new rules for inspections

The City of Sunnyside will change the way its planning department does inspections beginning Monday, April 5.

When contractors or home owners in Sunnyside do any work a permit must first be granted from the city. Once the work is completed the job must be inspected to ensure it was done properly.

Currently, a contractor or a home owner will call the city and ask for an inspection. The inspections are for the next day and the city will give a specific time when the inspector will on the site.

Beginning April 5, the inspection will still be the next day but now an AM/PM service call system will be in place. All inspections will be performed between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon, and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be no exact or estimated time offered for the inspections.

The new program will allow city staff time to perform duties such as plan reviews and permitting. The only exceptions to this new rule for performing same day inspections will be for roof tear downs and open trenches.
