Parrish leads Lady 'Hounds past Selah, 57-47

SELAH - The Grandview Lady Greyhound basketball team enjoyed a fast start on the way to a 57-47 CWAC victory at Selah last night, Wednedsay.

Grandview held an 18-14 advantage after one quarter, them clamped down on defense to hold the Vikings to single-digit scoring in the second and third quarters.

The result was a 30-21 lead at the half and 39-30 advantage after three quarters. Grandview then sealed the win in the final stanza.

"We did a much better job in our transition defense," Grandview Coach Paul Van Pelt said.

The coach said one of the other keys to last night's success was rebounding.

"We stressed all week that we had to block out hard and rebound big in order for us to get into our press breaker and run the floor," Van Pelt said.

The Lady Greyhounds responded as Payton Parrish led the team to a 43-39 rebounding edge with 23 boards.

"Payton dominated the glass," the coach said.

The solid rebounding and quick break opportunities helped Grandview to 54 percent shooting from the three-point line (6-of-11).

Marissa Caballero led Grandview with 23 points, while Parrish added 13 points, a team-high three assists and a blocked shot.

Morgan McCallister led Selah with 19 points.

Grandview (4-1, 5-2) returns to action tonight, Thursday, at home against Toppenish.

"This was a good win for us, heading into our showdown with Toppenish," Van Pelt said. "We must continue to block out and keep their posts off the glass."

He added that Grandview needs to play its style of basketball, "which is up tempo and running the floor."
