Local churches offer Christmas events for everyone


Like many Lower Valley churches, the Sunnyside Seventh-day Adventist Church has several special events planned to celebrate the Christmas holiday. Events kick off Saturday, Dec. 18. Violinist Jamie Jorge will play a concert starting at 10:30 a.m. and the church's annual living Nativity will begin at 6 p.m.

Amid the decorated homes and Christmas trees, gift shopping and holiday cooking, local churches are offering Lower Valley residents a chance to remember the true meaning of the holiday season.

From Christmas caroling to special services, local churches are hoping residents will join them to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

In Sunnyside and Grandview, various churches are opening their doors to old faces and new ones with events all week.

Calvary Lutheran Church - Located at 11th Street and Harrison Avenue in Sunnyside, the church invites people to their advent service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22. The service will feature music, prayer and scripture reading. The church will also have a Christmas Eve service at 9 p.m. on Dec. 24.

Holy Trinity Episcopal Church - At the corner of Fourth Street and Edison Avenue, the Sunnyside church will hold their Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m., with Rev. Christianne McKee presiding.

Sunnyside Seventh-day Adventist Church - The church, located at 1875 E. Lincoln Ave., will host world renowned violinist Jamie Jorge in a concert on Saturday, Dec. 18, started at 10:30 a.m. Also on Saturday, the church will hold its annual living Nativity from 6 to 8 p.m. Finally, the church will hold a Christmas Day program starting at noon.

Sunnyside First Baptist Church - Everyone is invited to join church members on Sunday, Dec. 19, at 4 p.m. to go Christmas caroling. Located at 401 S. Eighth St., people are asked to sign in at the church when they arrive, as a meal will be served after the caroling. The church will also have a candlelight Christmas Eve service on Friday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m.

Our Saviour's Lutheran Church - Located at the corner of Grandview and Taylor avenues, the Sunnyside church will have a soup supper and advent service starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22. The church also plans to hold a Christmas Eve service at 8 p.m.

Bethel Community Church - The church would like to invite the community to their Christmas service on Sunday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m. The church is located at 1018 North Avenue in Sunnyside.

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - The Sunnyside church, located at 2000 E. Lincoln Ave., will hold their Christmas service on Sunday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m.

Bethany Presbyterian - In Grandview, the church, located at Second Street and Birch Street, will have a Christmas Cantata during the Dec. 19 Sunday worship service at 10:30 a.m. That evening, the church will also feature a children's Christmas program at 6 p.m.

Immanuel Lutheran Church - Located at 300 South Euclid in Grandview, the church will have an 11 p.m. candlelight service on Christmas Eve. The service ends at midnight, just as Christmas Day begins.

Grandview Christian Church - The church will hold a special Christmas program at 310 South Euclid, the corner of Fourth Street and Euclid Avenue. The program will be held on Sunday, Dec. 19, at 10:30 a.m.

Grandview Church of the Nazarene - The church will have their Christmas Eve service from 6 to 7 p.m. at 500 N. Elm Street.

Grandview Community Church of God - The church will hold their Christmas service at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, at 914 W. Wine Country Road.

Grandview Assembly - Located at 501 Concord Ave., the church will hold their Christmas service on Sunday, Dec. 19, at 10 a.m.
