Grieving families can find support from Lower Valley Hospice and Palliative Care

Lower Valley Hospice and Palliative Care is pleased to announce that Al Johnston, one of their chaplains and bereavement counselors, has been able to undergo the training necessary to offer a new grief support group in the Sunnyside/Grandview area.

He will offer GriefShare, a 13-week seminar and support group for those who are mourning the loss of someone significant in their lives. This video based curriculum will be supplemented by his extensive knowledge, stemming from working with hundreds of local residents who have lost people through the hospice experience.

Johnston has been working on an individual level with well over 500 families in the last four years as a hospice chaplain. He also brings to the seminars his experience of being a pastor of a Lutheran church in the Selah area for almost 25 years.

He is described as a caring, loving pastor who loves to help people. He is also known for his engaging teaching and facilitating.

The GriefShare videos that will be used in this 13-week seminar will feature nationally recognized experts in grief recovery topics. Seminar sessions include "The Journey of Grief," "The Effects of Grief," "When a Spouse Dies," "Your Family and Grief," Why?" and "Stuck in Grief."

Thirteen different topics will be offered in 13 weeks.

These sessions are provided at no cost to the participants but participants are encouraged to preregister. Lower Valley Hospice and Palliative Care sees this as an opportunity to give back to the community by making this a free workshop.

This seminar will be held at the Grandview Nazarene Church at 500 N. Elm in Grandview.

The sessions will begin on Wednesday, May 12, and continue each Wednesday afternoon from 1- 2:30 p.m. until Aug. 11. If you have interest in attending, like more information or are considering bringing a friend, preregister by calling Lower Valley Hospice and Palliative Care at 837-1676.
