Anti-gang meeting on tap next Monday at Sunnyside church

Sunnyside residents interested in helping curb gang activities are invited to attend a meeting next Monday, Sept. 21, at the Cornerstone Assembly of God Church (400 North Ave.).

Sunnyside Police Department spokesman Charlotte Hinderlider said the 6:30 p.m. meeting is a call to local residents, groups and community partners to join Deputy Chief Phil Schenck in a continuing discussion of the gang issues that are currently taking place in the city. Monday evening's discussions will also include projects that are currently ongoing in Sunnyside to curb gang activity, as well as future projects and the status of funding and resources.

"Gang activity continues to be a pervasive reality in Sunnyside and something we deal with on a daily basis," said Hinderlider. "We need to continue our focus on the good, quality projects currently taking place in the city of Sunnyside."
