Sunnyside boys defeat three league foes

PASCO - The Sunnyside High School boys cross country team won three of seven head-to-head competitions against league opponents during a meet at Pasco yesterday, Tuesday.

Sunnyside, a 3A school, defeated 4A foes Moses Lake, Kennewick and Pasco in head-to-head scoring, and lost to 4A Eastmont, 4A Wenatchee, 4A Walla Walla and 3A Hanford.

The Sunnyside boys grabbed three wins despite being without their lead runner, Jordan Esqueda, due to illness.

Juan Reynoso led Sunnyside's boys by finishing in 13th place overall in 18:32. Rounding out Sunnyside's top five boys were Nathan Gonzalez (32nd, 19:24), Jesus Mendoza (33rd, 19:27), Andres Cantu (36th, 19:35) and Patrick Watts (37th, 19:42).

In girls competition, Sunnyside did not have the minimum five runners needed to compete in team competition.

The Lady Grizzlies were represented, though, as Sarasa Partida finished in 23rd place overall in a time of 25:07.

The Grizzly cross country team returns to action Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Connell Invite.
