Last jail escapee caught

A member of the Nortenos gang that escaped from the Sunnyside City Jail Nov. 30, 2006 has been caught and arrested in Manzanillo, Mexico in the state of Colima.

Aaron Lopez Garcia, 31, had been a federal prisoner housed at the Sunnyside jail awaiting sentencing on weapon charges.

Garcia escaped with three other federal inmates and was the last one still on the loose.

He was arrested this past Friday, according to Jeff Marty, supervising deputy of the U.S. Marshal's Office in Yakima.

Marty said someone recognized Garcia from the U.S. Marshal's 15 most wanted list from the marshal's website. He was taken into custody by members of the Colima State Police, Mexican Immigration officials and U.S. Marshals.

Garcia has since been charged in federal court with escape.

Marty said Garcia is expected to be back in Washington state within the month.

Garcia is a documented member of the Nortenos gang and has known a life of crime since he was a juvenile. Garcia has been charged and convicted of a number of offenses, which include several firearm possessions, robbery, domestic violence, drug possession, burglary and assault.
