Guadalupe Martinez, 101, of Seattle and a former Sunnyside resident, died on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009.

She was born Dec. 22, 1907 in San Marcos, Texas, the daughter of Luis and Elosia (Gamboa) Asevedo.

On Oct. 1, 1927 she married Sam R. Martinez in Temple, Texas. They together made their home in Sunnyside.

She is survived by Dionysuis Martinez of Phoenix, Ariz., Rosa Gonzalez of Pasco, Linda Smith of Denver, Colo., Samuel Martinez of SunnyValley, Ore., Claude Martinez and Frank Martinez, both of Seattle, Daniel Martinez of Marysville, Ernest Martinez of Santa Clarita, Calif., Sally Viramontes of Cinebar, Francis Pollari of Kirkland, Carbina Lopes of Ballard; 43 grandchildren; 96 great-grandchildren; and 32 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Lupe and Anna; and two brothers, Luis and Ray Asevedo.

Mass of Christian Burial was held today, Nov. 9, 2009, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside, with burial followed at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.

Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside is in charge of arrangements.
