Medalist honors snagged by Grandview junior

TERRACE HEIGHTS - Hitting both 15 fairways and 15 greens in regulation, Grandview High School junior Josh Jardine grabbed a share of medalist honors at yesterday's CWAC boys golf match at the Yakima Country Club.

Jardine, along with East Valley's Tyler Jensen, carded an 8-over-par 80.

"Fifteen greens in're going to start shooting some golf when you can do that," Grandview Coach Dave Uggetti said of Jardine's pinpoint approach shots yesterday.

Jardine, who just started playing competitive golf last season as a sophomore, was extremely workman-like in maneuvering his way around the 18-hole course. His birdie-free round consisted of mainly pars and bogeys. The Greyhound linkster scored a 40 on both the front and back nines.

The 80 Jardine notched on his scorecard Thursday afternoon was his personal best in a sanctioned competition. "Josh has gone lower, but not in a competitive setting," said Uggetti.

Claiming a share of medalist honors yesterday was also just the second time in Jardine's prep career he's turned in the low individual score. He tied for medalist honors earlier this season in a league match at Toppenish's Mt. Adams Country Club.

The only other Greyhound competing at yesterday's CWAC match was Ryan Contreras. Able to hit just three fairways all day, Contreras limped into the clubhouse with a 103 on front and back nines of 55-48.

In Thursday's team scoring, the host Red Devils won the competition with an aggregate score of 337. Prosser, behind Chad Hancock's 82 and an 83 from Devin Bender, placed second with a 366. Grandview did not have the full complement of four golfers, which automatically relegated the team as incomplete in the team scoring.

The 'Hounds are scheduled to compete at an invitational at Roslyn's Suncadia Golf Resort next Tuesday, then will host Ellensburg, Selah and Quincy at Black Rock Creek Golf Course in a league match two days later, on Thursday.
