Police chase leads to one arrest

Sunnyside police broke up an attempted auto theft last night, Monday, which eventually led to a pursuit of the suspect.

Just before midnight Sunnyside police responded to a suspected auto theft call in the 500 block of McClain Drive. When police arrived the suspect vehicle drove away and police began pursuit.

The vehicle, a 1999 white Honda Civic, turned into a parking lot in the 700 block of McClain Drive before exiting on Bagley Drive. Reaching speeds of 60 miles per hour, the vehicle headed westbound on Beckner Alley, running several stop signs before taking police out of town towards Outlook.

The chase eventually wound up on Arrowsmith Road where the suspect vehicle reached speeds of 100 miles per hour. The vehicle then tried to turn southbound on Maple Grove Road but left the roadway and collided with some vineyard plants. As officers approached the vehicle the driver exited the Honda and fled on foot. After searching the vineyard officers could not locate the suspect or his trail.

Three other people were in the vehicle. Jose A. Linares, 19, Monica Cisneros, 18, and a 16-year-old female were taken to the Sunnyside Police Department for questioning. Cisneros and the juvenile were questioned and released. Linares was booked on three Sunnyside Municipal Court warrants.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call 837-2120.
