Antonio Jose Alvarado, 72, of Mabton, went to be in the arms of his Heavenly Father, Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008.

He was born May 3, 1936 to Rosalio and Dolores (Cantu) Alvarado. At the age of 13, he migrated from Musquis Cauila Samora, Mexico to the United States. He settled in Mabton, where he met and later married the love of his life, Martha Esparza, on May 23, 1970.

He was a laborer and continued to make Mabton his home until the time of his death. He enjoyed his wife's bad jokes, swimming, fishing, making a yearly garden and walking his dogs, where they left their walking mark on Mabton High School's football field.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; two sons, Martin Antonio Alvarado and Benny Alvarado (Adriana); three grandchildren; four brothers; Rosalio Alvardo (Maria), Candelario Alvarado (Rosa), Delfino Alvarado (Vicki) and Juan Alvarado; one sister, Dolores Soltero (Jesus); and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Tomas Alvarado; and one sister, Paula Magana.

Viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, from 3 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Concepcion Catholic Church in Mabton, with burial to follow at Mabton Cemetery.
