Lady Vikings earn two victories over White Swan

WHITE SWAN - Mabton's softball team earned a pair of victories over the White Swan Lady Cougars last night (Tuesday).

In the opening game, the Lady Vikings outmatched White Swan 25-13.

Mabton Coach Jesus Sustaita said, "We capitalized on their walks and errors in each game."

He said the Lady Vikings performed well at the plate in the second game, which was won 27-3.

Mabton scored in all but the third inning of the first game. They were up 5-0 in the second inning when the Lady Cougars made headway by scoring 12 of their runs.

White Swan had one hit and drew 21 walks in the game. They committed four miscues.

Mabton earned its 25 runs on five hits and 19 walks. They had six errors in the game.

The nightcap was a running success for the Lady Vikings. They scored 27 runs on 15 hits and eight walks. The team committed five miscues.

White Swan scored the first of its three runs in the first inning and the other two in the final inning of the game. The Lady Cougars were controlled by Mabton and were only able to connect with the ball twice. They drew four walks and committed three errors.

Mabton's Cassandra Martinez was 2-for-2, Jessica Quesada was 1-for-3 and Cecilia Sanchez and Corinna Quesada were 1-for-2 at bat in the first game.

In the second game of the evening, Mabton's Debbie Enriquez was 1-for-3, Jessica Quesada was 3-for-3 with a triple, Consuelo Flores was 2-for-5, Cecelia Sanchez was 1-for-4, Marisol Cruz was 1-for-2, Crystal Martinez was 2-for-5 and Alma Garcia was 2-for-4 at the plate.

Mabton completed its regular season with a record of 4-4, 4-9. District 5 1A competition begins next Thursday, May 15.
