Pirates power past Yakama Tribal, 56-38

TOPPENISH - The Bickleton boys basketball team powered its way to a 56-38 win over the Yakama Tribal Eagles this past Saturday.

Cody Loomis had a game high 21 points for the night, and Bickleton teammates Eric Hess and Tyler Jensen were in double digits as well with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Coach Ben McBride said that the focus all season has been to work on the Pirates' ability to play team ball and he said that this past Saturday, they nailed it.

Early in the first quarter the Pirates had a 10-1 lead, but the Eagles rallied with two 3-point shots, ultimately trailing by two points going into the second quarter.

"In that first quarter, they came right back (at us)," said McBride. "That first quarter they did a good job sticking to us."

McBride switched to man to man defense in the second quarter, and it stuck, holding the Eagles back for the rest of the game.

Hess had a double-double for the night, garnering 21 boards for the Pirates along with his 14 points. Both Tyler Collins and Edgar Molina contributed seven boards each. Loomis contributed two assists and Tyler Jensen had three steals.

"We seemed more patient overall," praised McBride.

The Pirates face off against Sunnyside Christian Tuesday night. McBride praised the Knights by saying, "They've got a lot of depth. They have a tremendous offense and they have a tendency to shut teams down," said McBride.

"It's going to be a tough match-up for us."

The Pirates are now 2-6 in league play and 4-8 for the season.
