Castro low scorer for Lady Grizzlies at 3A league match

YAKIMA - Senior Vicky Castro shot a 140 yesterday at Apple Tree Golf Course to post the low score for the Sunnyside High School girls golf team.

Team-wise at Monday's 3A Columbia Basin League match, the Lady Grizzlies couldn't field a complete four-member squad. Kennewick, too, had an incomplete team and neither school was included in the team points race.

The Eastmont Wildcats, behind medalist Kaitlin Parsons and teammate Monny Graaf, won top team honors with a match low 353 strokes. Parsons carded the low individual round on the day-a 7-over-par 79. Graaf had the second low round, three strokes back with an 82.

The host West Valley Rams, led by Brianna Wood and Brianna Jennings with identical 96's, were a distant second in the team points race with 388 strokes.

Castro, in posting the low Sunnyside round on the day, absorbed a 72 on the par-35 front nine. She shaved her score to a 68 on the par-37 back nine.

Second in for the Lady Grizzlies was freshman Tonnelle Driesen. The underclassman recorded her best 18-hole score ever, shooting a 158 on front and back nine scores of 81-77.

Sunnyside Coach Gary Rohde said the third Lady Grizzly linkster at yesterday's match, Emily Slinker, began feeling faint and withdrew after 15 holes of play.

The Sunnyside squad is scheduled to play at next Monday's league match at the Tri-City Country Club. The April 30 competition will replace the league match that was to have taken place there in early April, but was rained out.
