Mabton council approves purchase of new fire truck, police cars

MABTON - The Mabton City Council approved two resolutions at Tuesday night's meeting supporting the joint purchase of a new fire truck with the county and authorizing the mayor to sign a contract to lease two police vehicles.

The fire truck is being purchased by Yakima County and the City of Mabton will pay for half of it. During its use both the county and the City of Mabton will split the costs to maintain the fire truck. Cost of the truck for the city will be approximately $91,000.

The two new police cars Mabton will lease will cost the city $1,332 a month. This money has already been earmarked in the 2006 budget.

The two oldest police cars with be surplused out, leaving the police department with four cars.

Council supports upcoming town hall meeting

MABTON - The Mabton City Council voted to support the town hall meeting to be held Saturday, Feb. 11, at Mabton High School.

Teachers, students, school officials and the community are invited to attend.

The council reiterated it believes the education and success of Mabton's students is an important goal of their community.
