PROSSER - An Intimate Red Wine and Chocolate Affair is yours for the asking next weekend in Prosser, and the creator of the best chocolate dessert could win $300.
Lower Valley Hospice and Palliative Care is hitching its annual event to Yakima Valley's Red Wine and Chocolate event to give wine and chocolate lovers another reason to come to the Lower Valley.
The festivities at the 11th annual Intimate Red Wine and Chocolate Affair begin at 7 p.m. and will conclude at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Prosser Community Center, located at 106 Merlot Drive.
An ultimate chocolate judging will take place at the start of the evening by a panel of chocolate connoisseurs. A $150 judges cash prize will be awarded to the winner. Those who attend will also have the opportunity to judge entries and the People's Choice winner will also receive $150.
"The opportunity exists for someone to win both cash prizes if the dessert is judged best by both the judges and attendees," said Carol Bos, a spokeswoman for Hospice.
For contest rules and entry forms, contact Lower Valley Hospice and Palliative Care in Sunnyside at 509-837-1676. Deadline for entries is Wednesday, Feb. 15.
"Come and taste red wine from renowned Yakima Valley wineries and indulge your sweet tooth as you pair your wine selections with milk, dark, bittersweet and white chocolate treats from regional confectioners," said Bos.
Tickets for the event are $20 per person or $35 a couple. They can be purchased at the door or from Hospice by phone at 509-837-1676 or visiting the office at 3920 Outlook Road in Sunnyside, Prosser Chamber of Commerce at 1230 Bennett Avenue or Grandview Chamber of Commerce at 107 Division Street.
"Event attendees will be enveloped in a warm, welcoming setting, including live harp music and charming decor," said Bos, who added that special room packages are available through Best Western, The Inn at Horse Heaven by calling 509-786-7090.
Proceeds will benefit Lower Valley Hospital and Palliative Care, which is the Lower Valley's local hospice providing quality care since 1978 to those facing a life-threatening illness.
