Mabton Vikings sail to victories in Cle Elum

CLE ELUM - The Mabton Vikings sailed west to Cle Elum yesterday to score well in the SCAC meet against A League track and field teams from Goldendale, Royal and Cle Elum.

Sara Vasquez and Veronica Sustaita were the only Vikings to bring home first place finishes. Vasquez ran the 800m race in 2:36, and Sustaita was first in the 3,200m run in a time of 15:44.

Vanessa Gonzalez of Mabton placed second in javelin competition with a throw of 93-2. Teammate Daniella Aguilar took two second place finishes, in the 100 and 200m dashes.

Erika Vargas added a third place finish to the Vikings' scorecard with a 26-10 effort in the shot put.

For the boys, Mark Prussing's javelin throw of 117-10.5 put him in second place. Robert Marquez also placed second in both the discus and shot put.

Mabton's Luis Quintero placed third in the discus with a throw of 5 feet, 10 inches short of the first place toss. He also placed fourth in the 300m hurdles.

The Vikings will host an invitational tomorrow (Thursday) at 3:30 p.m.
