Bender, Puente place at pro-am

KENNEWICK - Les Bender and Miguel Puente, representing Sunnyside's Black Rock Creek Golf Course, cashed at last week's PGA pro-am.

The fourth of 24 pro-ams to be staged in 2006 by the Central Washington chapter of the PGA, the one-day competition was held at Kennewick's Canyon Lakes Golf Course.

Bender tied for fourth place honors among amateur division #2 golfers, in the net scoring column. With his handicap figured in, Bender shot a 2-under-par 70. The low net round of the day (actual score minus handicap) was a 6-under-par 66.

Puente was the fifth place finisher among amateur division #2 golfers. He carded an 82, six strokes back of the amateur division #2 winner.

The low amateur round fired in the tourney was a 4-under-par 68, claimed by Mike Smithee of the host Canyon Lakes course.

Doug Buck of the Othello Golf Course and Matt Mandell of Canyon Lakes shot identical 2-under-par 70s for the low professional rounds.
