YAKIMA - The Sunnyside girls' swim team traveled to Yakima Saturday to swim against Selah.

The Lady Grizzlies lost 107-46.

"With six girls it's not an ideal situation but we're hanging in there," Sunnyside Coach Scott Southard said. "They're keeping their spirits up and improving."

Selah's team won the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:10.49. The Sunnyside team of Hannah Glockner, Megan Razey, Katie Knee and Rachelle Durfey took second with a time of 2:24.20.

In the 200 freestyle, Selah's Emma Beemer swam the fastest. Her time of 2:40.24 barely beat the time of Sunnyside's Bailey Morris, a clocking of 2:41.81. Glockner came in fourth with a 2:42.18 swim time.

Bree Sutton of Selah won the 200 individual medley in 2:22.53 while Knee took second with a time of 2:33.80.

Durfey bested all swimmers in the 50 freestyle in 27.80. Razey finished in fourth with a time of 32.48.

The 100 freestyle was won by Selah's Sutton in 59.68. Durfey placed second with a time of 1:02.94 and Sunnyside's Brittany Bonilla took fifth in 1:19.32.

Selah took the 200 free relay with a time of 2:01.67. Sunnyside's Durfey, Razey, Morris and Bonilla came in second, swimming the relay in 2:09.24.

Knee took top honors in the 100 backstroke. She swam a time of 1:10.63 and Morris finished fourth with 1:26.88.

In the 100 breaststroke, Selah's Katie McHenry swam a time of 1:24.45, good enough for first, and Razey finished third with 1:31.25.

The Sunnyside girls swim team must travel to Yakima every day to practice at Lions Pool. The grind is starting to wear on them.

"I feel bad for them," Southard said. "We are not putting them in the best possible position to have success.

"I would love for the girls to be able to practice in Sunnyside," he added. "The girls would have more time for homework and they wouldn't be so tired.

"That's not the situation so we're going to make the best of it with what we have," he said.
