Bulldog bowlers best S'side girls

PASCO - Despite an impressive 362 two-game series from Veronica Uribe, the Sunnyside High School girls bowling team dropped a 3-1 decision to the Pasco Bulldogs Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Grizzly keglers, through just two matches in the 2005-06 season, now have a 1-7 mark in the points standings.

Uribe found Pasco's Go Bowl Lanes to her liking yesterday. She opened the match with a 201. But with none of her teammates scoring above a 144, Sunnyside was upended 811-688 in the opening contest. Pasco was paced to the first game victory by Amy Bamford and Jessica Weisz, who had scores of 213 and 165, respectively.

In game two, the Lady Grizzlies gave Pasco a much tougher go, but in the end the Bulldogs eked out a 700-653 win. Bamford again was the leader for Pasco, tossing a 178. In the losing cause, Uribe had the top score for Sunnyside with a 161. Katie Weets added a 145 for the Lady Grizzlies.

In the first of two Baker games, Pasco came out on top 144-116. The Baker format calls for each member of the five-girl squad to alternate taking turns throughout each of the 10 frames. Sunnyside averted a sweep yesterday by winning the second Baker game, 124-122.

Sunnyside's individual scores from the first two varsity games were: Uribe-362 (201-161), Weets-269 (124-145), Tiara Moon-254 (144-110), Megan Saunders-254 (128-126) and Veronica Tlatelpa-202 (91-111).

The Lady Grizzly bowling team resumes action this Thursday at Yakima's Nob Hill Lanes against the West Valley Rams squad.
