Farmer's lead narrows

The Sunnyside city council race between incumbent Mike Farmer and challenger Bruce Epps narrowed to seven votes, according to the latest ballot count as of 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Farmer's lead now stands at 585 to 578 votes for Epps. The lead was at one time 11 votes before updated ballot counting trimmed it to 10 then seven.

Challengers Carol Stone and Bill Gant are maintaining their large leads over Bruce Ricks and Bengie Aguilar, respectively.

In Sunnyside School District races, incumbent Joanne Kilian increased her lead from 186 to 194 votes over challenger Mary Rita Rohde. Incumbent Larry Pangle narrowed challenger Rocky Simmons' lead from 51 to 26 votes.

Incumbent Lorenzo Garza, Jr. increased his lead over challenger Susanna Zamarron to 87 votes from an original margin of 59 votes.

The Yakima County Auditor's office will count mail-in ballots and update results daily. The election is scheduled to be certified on Tuesday, Nov. 29.
