Port to host open house at new building

Plans are being made to host an open house at the Sunnyside Port District's new operations and laboratory building, now nearing completion at the Port's industrial wastewater treatment plant on Midvale Road.

The combination open house and Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce business after-hours social will be held Tuesday, Feb. 22, said Port Manager Amber Hansen.

The new building will house the Port's operations center and lab for its new sequencing batch reactor, which is expected to more efficiently process industrial wastewater.

The reactor and new building were constructed during the past year to expand and improve the treatment plant's capacity, Hansen said.

"We'd like the public to come see our new lab and the state-of-the art processing equipment now available in the Port District," Hansen said.

She said the open house will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
