Shriners to hold screening clinic in S'side

The Masada Shrine Center is conducting a semi-annual search for children with orthopedic problems ranging in age from birth to 18 years old.

Children selected may be helped at no cost at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Spokane or Portland, Ore.

A free screening clinic will be sponsored at Sunnyside Community Hospital Saturday, April 16.

At the clinic, preliminary examinations are completed to determine if a youth has an abnormality that will require assistance or if it is something that will improve with growth, according to President Donald Lansing of the Masada Shrine Center Hospital Corps Unit.

Referrals are also obtained through school nurses and in some cases medical practitioners, said Lansing.

He added that the clinic is open to all regardless of social or insurance status.

Since 1922, Shriners and Shriners Hospitals for Children have been helping children at no cost. The organization has 18 orthopedic hospitals and four burn centers supported by Shriners through annual dues, wills and gifts.
