Loan store employee held up in mall parking lot robbery

An employee of KB Loans in the Mid Valley Mall was the target of an armed robbery Friday morning.

Sunnyside police are still investigating the robbery, in which a man allegedly approached the employee of the payday loan store in the mall parking lot and demanded her purse.

According to Mid Valley Mall manager Greg Meshke, the suspects grabbed the woman's purse and when she fought back, they pulled a gun.

"This was not a random purse snatching," said Meshke. "She had cash for the daily operation of the store. They targeted her because they knew she had cash. They knew what time she was coming and what she had."

One witness said the employee was on her way back from the bank when the robbery occurred, which Meshke confirmed.

The suspects fled the parking lot, but police were investigating a possible suspect in a North Avenue area neighborhood late Friday morning.

The victim was not physically hurt, but Meshke said she was badly shaken by the events of the morning.

Meshke said that the mall is a safe place to shop. Customers shouldn't be worried that they will have their purses snatched when at the mall.

"This was not random," he said.

As of print time no other information on the robbery was available.
