Simpson top girls 'B' coach

Mabton High School girls basketball coach Brett Simpson was honored this past weekend for his hard work and dedication to the Lady Vikes program.

Simpson was named the Greater Columbia 'B' League Coach of the Year.

Simpson had his most successful season in recent years, finishing fourth in the Greater Columbia 'B' League's northern division with a league record of 7-6, 8-12 overall.

Michelle Tellez was the only Lady Viking recognized with all-opponent team honors.

Sunnyside Christian had two players on the all-opponent team in Hilary Hughes and Tyssyna Van Wingerden.

Bickleton's Annie Hess also received all-opponent team honors.

Riverside Christian's Erin Shively was named this year's most valuable player. Hughes finished second in the MVP balloting.

Both the Mabton High School and Sunnyside Christian High School boys basketball teams had two players apiece receive all-opponent team honors.

A.J. Valencia and Alex Zavala received all-opponent honors for the Vikings.

Earning the same honor for the Knights were Chad Den Boer and Jordan Haak.

Josh Horsely of Riverside Christian was named this year's most valuable boys player.

The boys coach of the year honors went to Trout Lake's Morgan Colburn.
