Sanctity of Life display going up

GRANDVIEW - Every year 1,370,000 abortions are reported in the United States. To create a visual representation of that number, the Lower Valley Pregnancy Center will launch a month-long Sanctity of Human Life display on the lawns of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview.

A ceremony to mark the month-long observance will be held Saturday, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m., according to Jan McDonald, a center spokesperson.

"43 percent of women of childbearing age will have or have had abortions," she said.

Since this is a large number to comprehend, the Center's board and staff will be setting out 200 pink and blue flags on the church lawn to represent the number of daily abortions in the United States, she explained.

She said a similar display will be in Sunnyside at the Free Methodist Church, 1108 Lincoln Ave.

McDonald said area residents may support the observance with a donation of $5 for a pink or blue flag. To sponsor a flag or for more information about the project, call the center at 882-1899.
